Some tips for your trip:-
You need your Passport and car papers or certified copy there of. All chalets have bedding and basic cooking utensils including cutlery and pots and pans. Please ensure you take your gas braai and/or gas plate. Braai's and grids are fixed. To save cost do your shopping in Komatipoort. There is a good Spar and also a butchery and bottle store. As a precaution ensure that you get glycerine or mosquito soap and peaceful sleep. Fresh Pau (bread and cool drinks and beer is locally available). Remember to pack something warm as after sundown it could be quite nippy. Make sure to fill up at Komatipoort. Make sure that if you are towing that you have the blue triangle on yellow backing on your front bumper and on the rear of the trailer or caravan.
Directions to Border:
Follow the N$4. in the complex at the Sasol Garage on the main road in Komatipoort, there is a Hollard Insurance Agent (Henry). Here is always somebody helpful as you need to get a Road Insurance for your cars and trailers. They will also for a small fee, fill in your border papers and explain exactly what to do at the border. They are very helpful. It is also a good place to swop Rand for Meticas. Should you drive a diesel vehicle, turn left into Komatipoort and about 1km down the road on the left hand side after you have passed under the bridge there is a Diesel Depot that is substantially cheaper than the garage with a clean toilet.
One through the border post, make sure everybody wears seat belts front and back. Keep your licence, Insurance and Temporary Import permit handy. If anybody stops you, produce these. If they threaten you with a fine, grab your cell phone and tell them you are phoning the Ministry of Tourism. This normally results in them letting you go. If you get caught for speeding, seatbelts or most things, the fine is Mts 1000 – then it is better to pay than to argue.
You get a toll gate which is Mts 95. Stay on that road until you get to a robot at Matola, turn left towards Maputo and go through the second toll Plaza which is Mts 17.50. The first main turn off says Cha Chai (Xai-Xai). Turn left here and keep going straight at all the circles (be careful of pedestrians and taxis here) about 35km from here you will come to a small town, called Maracuenne. The road makes a sharp left and looks as if the road used to go straight (dual carriageway) – turn off the main road into the dual carriageway and go straight until you have to turn left. Go straight until a T Junction and turn right over first road onto dirt road. Follow this to the ferry. Please note that the Ferry hours are 6 in the morning until 6 at night. They are very strict with these times and if you are late, you will have to make arrangements with us. The ferry costs around R60 per vehicle and R60 per trailer/caravan for a return trip. Once you are over the ferry, carry on up to De La Rey hut and turn right. Go straight until the road makes a sharp turn right. There is a small road left before you cross a little bridge – follow this road take the first turn to the right to the camp (This sign say Tsakane bush and beach Resort)
